A Note from the Executive Principal

July, 2015

Dear Excel Families,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2015-2016 school year at Excel Academy Public Charter School.  My name is Mrs. Nicole Walker and I am the new principal of Excel. You have made a fantastic decision in choosing us to educate your scholar(s). I can assure you that I will carry on the steadfast, committed work of education at Excel. I am confident Excel will continue to improve its student achievement and reach Tier 1 status as we work together collaboratively. This year will be filled with hard work, fun, and lots of learning!

I am so excited to be joining the Excel team! I am originally from Indiana but have been in the D.C. area for the past 2 years. I have spent these last two years as a principal of a Tier 1 charter school and I am excited to put my skills to work to help Excel reach Tier 1 status. Since I was in the second grade, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher. Because I was strongly influenced by my teachers, I wanted to be just like them when I grew up! I have had the pleasure of being a classroom teacher, an instructional coach, and a reading interventionist before moving into administration. My family has always been my greatest support and motivation. My husband Drew is a self-proclaimed “web-master”, but I believe his greatest skill is cooking! I am very lucky to be the mother of two amazing little ones, Drew, Jr. (age 7) and Ayva (age 5). We also have two dogs named Zola and Petey.

It’s time for us to come together to fully realize the potential of our school and our scholars. I need your expertise to guide me and my team over this coming year. I will seek your input and listen to your opinions, so feel free to share. You will soon come to know that I will always do what I believe is best for kids. They are the sole reason we exist! I appreciate and do not take lightly the fact that you trust us each day with your most precious assets. We value building strong relationships with you based on a mutual respect for teaching and learning, the highest professional expectations, and the expertise you bring to the educational process. You know your children better than anyone else! Together, we make a powerful team, working for the betterment of future generations – rewarding work indeed!

I look forward to meeting you soon, and I have enclosed additional information that will be important to know as we gear up for an amazing 2015-16 school year.

Sincerely yours,
Mrs. Nicole Walker
